Meridian Lawn Aeration Services

Are parts of your lawn harder and firmer than others? High traffic areas near gates or children's play areas may be packed tight causing dry and brown grass.

Sticking a pitch fork in the ground won't solve the problem. You physically need to pull plugs out of the lawn so your yard can finally breathe again.

Local Lawn Aeration

Our Meridian lawn care specialists understand how tough Southwest Idaho soil can get. Compaction builds fast here because of the dry high desert and clay/silty soils.

  • Lawn aeration relieves compacted soil
  • Improves root development and deeper growth
  • Better water and nutrient absorption
  • Reduction of thatch buildup

We don’t just punch holes in your lawn. We reset the conditions your grass needs to grow stronger, thicker, and more consistent.

Relieves Soil Compaction

Foot traffic, mowing, and everyday use slowly press your soil down. When that happens, roots can’t move, and your lawn starts to thin out.

Aeration breaks lawn compaction apart so air, water, and nutrients can reach the root zone again.

Boosts Nutrient & Water Uptake

Most lawns aren’t starved for fertilizer in the Treasure Valley. They just can’t absorb it properly.

Lawn aeration opens pathways so water and nutrients actually reach the roots. That means better results from every treatment you invest in.

Reduces Thatch Buildup

Thatch builds up quietly. It traps moisture, blocks airflow, and suffocates healthy turf over time.

Aeration helps break that layer down so your lawn can breathe and recover naturally.

How much does aeration services cost?

How do I know if my lawn needs aeration?

Try pushing a screwdriver or small tool into your soil. If it’s hard to get in, your soil is compressed and your lawn isn’t getting what it needs below the surface.

You may also notice water pooling instead of soaking in, or grass that looks weak even with proper care. Those are clear signs aeration will help.

Can I overseed after aerating?

It is great idea to overseed and aerate at the same time. Place the seed down while the holes or slices are still open and before the cores start to break down. Be care NOT to use a weed control when overseeding, as it will hinder germination. A starter fertilizer is best for new grass seeds.

How long will it take the soil plugs to disappear?

The cores will break down naturally and disappear into your lawn over time, depending on weather conditions. As the cores disintegrate, the soil microbes they contain will help break down thatch, so don’t remove them. Watering, light raking and mowing help soil plugs break down sooner.

When is the best time to aerate?

Timing matters. Aerating during extreme heat or cold can stress your lawn and slow recovery, which opens the door for weeds and other problems.

For most lawns in Southwest Idaho with cool-season grass, spring or early fall is the best time. That’s when your lawn is actively growing and can recover quickly.

Should I use a spike or core aerator?

There are two options, but they don’t work the same. Spike aerators poke holes into the soil, while core aerators pull out small plugs and actually open the ground up.

Core aeration is the better choice. It relieves compaction properly and creates space for roots, water, and nutrients to move deeper into the soil.

How often should I aerate my lawn?

Most lawns benefit from aeration once a year, but it depends on how your yard is used. Heavy foot traffic, pets, or clay soil can cause compaction to build faster.

If your lawn gets a lot of use, you may need aeration twice a year. Less traffic and looser soil may only need it every couple of years.

What should I do after aeration?

Right after aeration is when your lawn can absorb the most. It’s the best time to overseed and fertilize so roots can take full advantage of the improved soil conditions.

Water your lawn well and avoid heavy traffic for a short time so it can recover and fill in properly.

Some lawns blend in.
Yours stands out.
